Norton Rose hires new partner in Hong Kong

The appointment brings the number of partners in Norton Rose''s Asian practice to 17, out of which Hong Kong accounts for seven.

Law firm Norton Rose is growing by leaps and bounds - at least in Hong Kong. Since re-opening its office in Hong Kong in April this year, the firm has hired one more partner and two assistants and expects to make more hires in the near future. The latest high-profile appointment is Freeman Chan, who was appointed as partner in the corporate finance department.

Prior to joining Norton Rose, Chan was a partner in Koo & Partners, which recently combined with US firm Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker. Chan was the head of the corporate finance team at Koo & Partners.

At Norton Rose, Chan will be back rubbing shoulders with David Stannard, managing partner of Norton Rose's Hong Kong office. Stannard and Chan have worked together in the past when they handled the 1996 listing of Guangshen Railway, China's only publicly listed railway company. Chan has worked on a number of corporate finance transactions, including 15 IPOs in the last three years.

Chan's appointment brings the number of partners in Norton Rose's Asian practice to 17, out of which Hong Kong accounts for seven. The total number of lawyers in the region amounts to 60.
