SSgA creates new fixed income role

Ramon Maronilla joins from HSBC.

Ramon Maronilla, former director of institutional business development for Asia at HSBC Asset Management, has joined State Street Global Advisors in Hong Kong as principal and a member of the firm's global fixed-income portfolio management team.

A SSgA spokeswoman explains the role for Maronilla is a new one meant to champion fixed income both to the firm's regional clients as well as within the firm. She says fixed income represents a growing part of SSgA's business. Maronilla will interact between the product development team in Boston and in Asia ex-Japan, and with the sales arm, to keep both desks informed and assist with marketing. He will also play a leadership role with regards to the Pan Asian Investment Fund, the passive $1 billion Asian bond fund seeded by the region's central banks, which launched at the beginning of the year and is being listed in Hong Kong as an exchange-traded fund.

Maronilla will report to the firm's product engineering team in Boston as well as to the global fixed-income team in London.

Before working at HSBC, he served for four years at Pimco Asia, where he was responsible for institutional client service and for building its regional mutual funds business.
