Slevin joins Salomon Smith Barney

Frank Slevin becomes the latest high profile banker to join Citigroup.

Frank Slevin has left BNP Paribas Peregrine Capital and joined Salomon Smith Barney. He joins his old boss and mentor Francis Leung at the investment bank where he will be head of Hong Kong investment banking.

Slevin moves into the position which previous incumbent Clifford Chiu vacated in December when he joined Bank One.

Slevin started his career at Hambros, but for the last seven years has been with Peregrine and then BNP Paribas Peregrine. At BNP Paribas Peregrine he rose to the position of vice chairman of BNP Paribas Peregrine Capital, the corporate finance division of the bank. There he ran a team of 70-80 investment bankers across the region.

According to Sanjiv Misra, head of Asian investment banking at Salomon Smith Barney, Slevin's new role will be to serve Citigroup's Hong Kong clients in whatever corporate finance capacity they might require. "We view Frank as a very capable and experienced banker and we are giving him a platform to perform," he says.

BNP Paribas Peregrine comments that the bank has no intention of re-hiring for his position and instead the vice chairmanship will be phased out. The chairman of BNP Paribas Peregrine Capital, Alex Ko and Jin Yi Lee the head of M&A who joined in January, will jointly undertake Slevin's roles.
