BNY Mellon IM adds more MDs

BNY Mellon Investment Management has hired two more managing directors – one for insurance and pension product development, and another to cover mutual funds – as it continues its Asia-Pacific buildout.

Stuart Guinness started at the US firm in Singapore this month as managing director and product director for mutual funds, after 20 years working in asset management in the region. He reports to Jane Caire, Asia-Pacific head of strategy and corporate development.

He was most recently Asia-Pacific head of emerging market products at Credit Suisse Asset Management, a post he held from November 2011 but left as part of the firm’s reorganisation late last year.

Before that, Guinness was head of institutional client relationships at Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking. He has also worked – largely in product roles – at Fidelity in Hong Kong and South Korea, Prudential Asset Management in Singapore, as well as at AMP Capital and Barclays Global Investors.

Meanwhile, Richard Collis has joined BNY Mellon IM in Hong Kong in a newly created role to help build insurance and pension solutions for Asian investors.

Collis previously worked at US insurer MetLife, where he was mainly responsible for growing the company’s bancassurance business across Asia Pacific.

The two new arrivals at BNY Mellon follow the hire of managing director Albert Yeh and the firm’s announcement of plans to launch a separately managed account platform in Hong Kong, both in July.

Like Guinness and Yeh, Collis reports to Caire, who says the firm wants to “develop a range of genuinely new services specifically for Asian investors” and to that end is bringing in several product and sector experts.

Collis joined MetLife’s Sydney office in 2005 following its acquisition of Travelers Life & Annuity from Citi, and relocated to Hong Kong in 2007. Before joining the insurer, Collis worked in Australia with Citigroup Australia and Zurich Financial Services.
